Voiced velar plosive to Voiced labiodental fricative

The transformation of the voiced velar plosive ([g]) into the voiced labiodental fricative ([v]) is a documented phonetic shift, primarily occurring through a process of lenition. This change involves both a weakening of the consonant's articulation from a complete stop to a fricative, and a significant shift in its place of articulation from the velar region (back of the tongue against the soft palate) to the labiodental region (lower lip against upper teeth).
