Voiced aspirated velar plosive to Voiced palatal approximant

The shift from the voiced aspirated velar stop [ɡʱ] to the palatal approximant [j] is a form of palatalization and lenition. This weakening often occurs before front vowels where the velar closure is pulled forward and eventually reduced to a glide.
