Voiced postalveolar fricative to Close front rounded vowel

The shift from the voiced postalveolar fricative [ʒ] to the palatal glide [j] (here represented by 'y') is a reduction process. This is most notably observed in Spanish 'yeísmo' dialects where [ʒ] variants of the palatal lateral or palatal glide reduce to a pure glide.
